WELCOME TO MISS DAISY'S NURSERY

I am very excited to be opening a second nursery school in the crypt of St Luke's Church in January 2010.

I am hoping to create a village type nursery in the heart of Chelsea, which will be open to all local families.

I opened Miss Daisy's Nursery, Belgravia in September 2006 and I am looking forward to bringing the same ethos and atmosphere to St Luke's, Chelsea. The key to the ethos at Miss Daisy's is that the children actively lead their own development with no pressure placed on them in any way. The education offered at Miss Daisy's is a balance between formal learning and learning through play. All the teachers make sure that it is a very nurturing environment and that each child's individual needs are met.

I started my teaching career at Thomas's Battersea and then went on to Garden House School where I ran the early years for the boys' school. I felt that many of the children were arriving aged four and a half and were not prepared for school life. I wanted to open a nursery school where, through gentle preparation each day, the children are ready to move on to their next school. Most importantly, I want children to leave Miss Daisy's happy and confident and with a thirst for knowledge. I originally trained as a Montessori teacher and then went on to University to get a degree in early years teaching. I have recently been awarded with an early years professional status. I have tried to incorporate all my years of experience at different schools with my Montessori background into the curriculum as well as keeping up to date with new teaching methods. I feel that at Miss Daisy's we get the balance right with sessions of free play mixed with fun lessons focusing on letter sounds, numbers and different topics.

The team of teachers are all very experienced and fully qualified, with a passion for teaching young children. Many of the teachers from Belgravia will be moving to the new school at St Luke's and are all very excited to carry through our ethos at the new school.

Miss Niki Bencic will be Deputy Head of the new school and is very much looking forward to welcoming the children. Miss Niki is a fantastic teacher who is loved by all children and parents.

At Miss Daisy's we feel that is important for there to be variety each day, so there will be different specialist teachers visting each week. There will be dancing and ballet, French, music and movement and sport with Ben from Little Kickers.

The crypt at St Luke's is having a huge make over and is being turned into a wonderful learning environment for the children to feel safe and secure in. Each room has wonderful high ceilings, and the rooms are designed to be bright and fun for the children to learn in. The school will have its own safe entrance and the children will be able to play at the back of St. Luke's Church so they will have outisde play each day.

We very much hope to be very involved with St. Luke's Church and welcome the families who attend church there. We start each morning at Miss Daisy's with a small prayer that the children and teachers say together.
